How are the teaching plans being selected?

There are numerous experiments being used in overseas schools and universities. However, we realize that a direct transplant of these experiments into Hong Kong is unlikely to be successful due to the differences in:
  1. medium of instruction;
  2. syllubi;
  3. class size, and
  4. classroom setting
Therefore, the EconExperiments Team screened and selected the experiments, which are more likely suitable to be used in Hong Kong's teaching environment. With appropriate modification for Hong Kong's classrooms, we developed teaching plans, worksheets and powerpoint slides for these experiments.

There are two main sources from where we selected our teaching plans:

Core team selection from the list: Game Economists Play: Non-Computerized Classroom Games for College Economics which contains an extensively annotated and hyperlinked compilation of more than 120 micro & macro games.

The experiments chosen were under the following criterions:

  1. The topic is within either the syllabus of Hong Kong Certificate Examination (HKCE) or Hong Kong Advanced Level (HKAL) issued by the Hong Kong Examination Authority;
  2. The experiment is able to be implemented in a classroom setting (therefore, web-based experiments would be excluded);
  3. The experiment has a reference list which contains website(s), book(s) and/or other information; and
  4. The experiment was agreed by at least 2 of our team members.

Due to the limited funding for this research, no more teaching plans will be developed after 31 July 2002. However, this website will be remained and teachers can utilize our discussion forum to exchange ideas and suggestions!
